If you live in southern California, here are a few tips to help you protect your car from theft or other break-ins.
- Don’t leave valuables visible – A smartphone in a cupholder might make even a casual thief decide its time for a smash and grab. Try not to leave valuables in your car, but if you have to, keep them out of sight.
- Lock the doors and close the windows – Most thieves want an easy score. They may go through a parking lot checking door handles just to see which car will be the easiest to get into. Or they may be looking for a car with the windows cracked to give them an in. It may be hot in the car when you get back, but at least there will be a car for you to come back to.
- Park in well-lit areas – This is for nighttime parking, or if you know you won’t be coming back to your car until after dark. Criminals love it when no one can see them, so the brighter the parking spot, the more of a deterrent you have.
- Get an alarm system – Having a professionally installed car alarm system is going to be your best deterrent and your best chance at getting the car back if it ever is stolen.
