Tips for Outfitting Your Boat for Spring

Spring is here, and that means more time out on the boat with your best pals. So how are you going to be sure to enjoy your music while cruising on the bay? Here are some tips for outfitting your boat with the best marine sound system.

  • Look for the word Marine, not Marinized – Marinized equipment has circuitry that has been sprayed with a coating to protect it from liquids. But this is not a long-term solution, and it’s not ideal for use on a boat.
  • Use marine wiring – You can get the best speakers, amps, and head unit, but if your wires corrode, you’re still going to end up needing to do repairs.
  • Look for an IPX of 6 or more – A 6 means that equipment has been blasted with pressurized water to ensure that it is actually water-resistant. A 7 rating means that equipment is tested with full submersion to offer even better protection.
  • Don’t skimp on your sub – There’s no way to create great acoustics when your ceiling is the sky and the water is sending everyone else’s noise your way. A great sub is the best way to ensure you can enjoy your music.
